LIZZY
65-75 years, female. Non-singing role. Retired mental health counselor. Widowed. SARAH’s mother-in-law, doting grandmother to SARAH’s sons, JOEY and PEYTON. Her son, SARAH’s husband, died of a drug overdose five years earlier. Helps everyone without making a fuss about it. Has arthritis and walks with a cane.

ESTHER
65-75 years, female. Non-singing role. Retired County Clerk. Never married. Highly influential town gossip who knows everything about everybody. Friend to, but jealous of, LIZZY since they were in school
together. Opinionated, stubborn, with a temper.

PHYLLIS
25-40 years, female. JOYCE’s and JOANIE’s best friend. Single, lonely, works in a clothing store. Loves clothes and buying nice things she can’t afford. Likes being part of ESTHER’s Crew because her friends are.
JOYCE
35-55 years, female. PHYLLIS’ and JOANIE’s best friend. Works as an EMT, serious, kind, caring, sad. Likes being part of ESTHER’s Crew because ESTHER knows who’s ill and might need her help.

35-55 years, female. Owns the funeral home. Cares deeply about the families she serves and helping them find closure. Likes being part of ESTHER’s Crew because ESTHER knows what’s going on with the families she serves.

65-75 years, male. PAULINE’s husband. Cantankerous, outspoken, antique store owner. Loves his family. His children have moved away for work. His first grandchild is two at the beginning of the pandemic.

65-75 years, female. Long-suffering wife of JOSH. Conveys volumes with a look or reaction. She is always at his side, obviously loves him even though he doesn’t listen and she can’t get a word in.
SARAH
35-45 years, female. Critical care nurse at the local hospital. JOEY’s and PEYTON’s mother. Husband was injured on the job, hooked on oxycodone, overdosed, and died five years before. She is tense, serious, overly protective of her sons and mother-in-law, LIZZY.

16 years, male. SARAH’s older son. HEATHER’s boyfriend. Shy, sensitive, withdrawn. Deeply wounded by his father’s death. Believes his grandmother, LIZZY, is the only person who understands him.

PEYTON
10 years, male. SARAH’s younger son. Loving, creative, energetic, and loves pestering his older brother.

35-45 years, female. Minister’s wife. On every community board in the town. Loving mother and wife of JAMES. Struggles with a cancer diagnosis and treatment as the Covid lockdown starts.

35-45 years, male. Minister, EMILY’s husband. Deeply committed to his family, faith and community.
HEATHER
15 years, female. EMILY and JAMES’ oldest daughter. JOEY’s girlfriend. First time cheerleader, desperate to fit in. Frustrated with her younger siblings and rebellious with the family’s restrictions.

12 years, female. Middle daughter of EMILY and JAMES. Bookworm, wise beyond her years, stuck with learning the piccolo for band. Loves tormenting her older sister, but protective of her youngest.
